Target Information

This gene belongs to the subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs). The hnRNPs are RNA-binding proteins that complex with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA). These proteins associate with pre-mRNAs in the nucleus and influence pre-mRNA processing, mRNA metabolism, and transport.
Some hnRNPs shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm. The hnRNP proteins have distinct nucleic acid binding properties. The protein encoded by this gene contains three quasi-RRM domains that bind to RNA and is similar to HNRPH1. It is implicated in Fabray disease and X-linked agammaglobulinemia phenotype. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding the same protein.
