Target Information
TAS2R41 is a receptor involved in the perception of bitterness and belongs to the G-protein receptor superfamily. It is expressed mainly in taste receptor cells of the tongue and palate epithelia. The TAS2R41 gene encodes a seven-transmembrane receptor protein and is clustered with eight other taste receptor genes on chromosome 7. Chloramphenicol acts as an agonist for TAS2R41. The receptor may also play a role in sensing the chemical composition of gastrointestinal contents. TAS2R41 activity can stimulate alpha gustducin, mediate PLC-beta-2 activation, and lead to TRPM5 gating. It is expressed in subsets of gustducin-positive taste receptor cells, which can discriminate among bitter stimuli.
