Target Information
This gene belongs to the MAGED gene family, clustered on chromosome Xp11. The MAGED2 gene is located in Xp11.2, a region associated with X-linked intellectual disability (XLID). Mutations in this gene cause a form of transient antenatal Bartter’s syndrome. It may also be involved in cancers such as breast cancer and melanoma. The encoded protein relocates from the cytoplasm to the nucleoplasm during interphase and after nucleolar stress, suggesting a role in cell cycle regulation. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
