Target Information
NENF is a secreted protein expressed in neurons but not glial cells of the brain. It exhibits neurotrophic activity in primary cultured mouse neurons without mitogenic activity in astrocytes. NENF activates MAP and PI3K pathways and can be inhibited by pertussis toxin, indicating action through a Gi/Go-protein-coupled receptor rather than receptor tyrosine kinases.
