Target Information
Initiation of transcription from protein-coding genes in eukaryotes is a complex process that requires RNA polymerase II and basal transcription factors. The binding of TFIID (TBP) to the TATA box initiates the formation of a multiprotein complex including TFIIA, TFIIB, TFIIE, TFIIF, and TFIIH (BTF2).
TFIIH is a multisubunit transcription/DNA repair factor with several enzymatic activities. Its core includes subunits p89 (XPB/ERCC3), p62, p52, p44, and p34. Additional subunits include p80 (XPD/ERCC2) and a ternary kinase complex (Cdk7, cyclin H, MAT1). Both p89 and p80 have ATP-dependent helicase activity, while p62, p52, and p44 are involved in nucleotide excision repair.
