MYO5A는 myosin V 중쇄 유전자 중 하나로, actin 기반 모터 단백질 계열에 속하며 세포 내 소포 수송, 방추체 정렬 및 mRNA 이동에 관여합니다. 이 단백질은 멜라노사이트와 신경세포에서 풍부하게 발현됩니다.
MYO5A 유전자의 변이는 Griscelli syndrome type-1 (GS1), type-3 (GS3), 및 Elejalde disease를 유발할 수 있습니다. 다양한 스플라이싱 변이체가 보고되었으나 일부는 완전한 구조가 확인되지 않았습니다.
