Description:
The eBioL31 monoclonal antibody reacts with mouse CD207 (Langerin), expressed in Langerhans cells (LC), a subset of dendritic cells. Mouse CD207 is a 48 kDa C-type lectin transmembrane protein involved in antigen recognition and uptake. LCs are located in the epidermis and, upon activation, reduce CD207 expression as they migrate toward lymphatic vessels. Expression of CD207 correlates with the presence of Birbeck Granules, and their formation has been observed upon CD207 cDNA transfection into fibroblast cell lines.

Western blotting with eBioL31 reveals a 48 kDa band in lysates from mouse ear epidermis and CD207-transfected cells. Preliminary data indicate suitability for intracellular flow cytometric analysis using the Foxp3/Transcription Factor Staining Buffer Set (Product # 00-5523).
The epitope recognized by eBioL31 lies within the extracellular CRD domain, allowing detection of both surface and intracellular Langerin. Expression levels may vary between mouse strains.

Target Information

Langerin (CD207) is a type II membrane-associated C-type lectin expressed exclusively by Langerhans cells. It recognizes mannose residues via its carbohydrate recognition domain (CRD) and is localized both on the cell surface and intracellularly, associated with Birbeck granules. Transfection of Langerin cDNA into fibroblasts induces membrane structures characteristic of Birbeck granules, highlighting its role in membrane organization and BG formation.
