The MAD2L1BP gene encodes a protein that binds to MAD2 (mitotic arrest deficient-like 1).
MAD2 is a key spindle checkpoint component that prevents anaphase onset until all kinetochores are properly attached.
MAD2L1BP may interact with the spindle checkpoint and coordinate cell cycle events in late mitosis.
Alternative splicing generates distinct isoforms.
