Target Information
Cyclins are key regulatory proteins involved in the control of the eukaryotic cell cycle. The mitotic cyclin B/Cdc2 p34 kinase complex is a well-characterized example, acting as a component of the maturation-promoting factor. Cyclin A accumulates earlier than cyclin B during the cell cycle, is involved in S phase regulation, and associates with cyclin-dependent kinase-2 (Cdk2). Cyclin A also plays a role in cell transformation and forms complexes with E1A, transcription factors DRTF1 and E2F, and retinoblastoma protein p110.
A second form, Cyclin A1, shares high sequence homology with Xenopus cyclin A1 and is primarily expressed in germ cells. Cyclin A1 can associate with Cdk2, p39, and Cdc2 p34.
