Target Information
SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2), also known as 2019-nCoV, causes illnesses ranging from mild cold-like symptoms to severe respiratory distress and death.
The CoV Spike (S) protein is crucial for viral attachment, fusion, and entry, making it a key target for antibody development, entry inhibitors, and vaccines.
The Spike protein receptor-binding domain (RBD, S-RBD) binds strongly to human and bat ACE2 receptors, exhibiting higher affinity than SARS-CoV RBD.
S1 contains the RBD that specifically interacts with ACE2 receptors on host cells.
SARS-CoV-2 S protein consists of 1273 amino acids, including:
- Signal peptide (aa 1–13)
- S1 subunit (aa 14–685)
- S2 subunit (aa 686–1273)
The S-ECD represents the extracellular domain of the Spike protein.
