Target Information

Calbindin-D-28K (also known as vitamin D-dependent calcium-binding protein or cholecalcin) is a highly conserved 28 kDa calcium-binding protein with broad tissue distribution. It belongs to a family of low molecular weight calcium-binding proteins (CaBPs) such as calmodulin, S-100, parvalbumin, and troponin C. These proteins share homologous primary structures containing conserved EF-hand motifs for Ca²⁺ binding.
Calbindin-D-28K is predominantly found in subsets of neurons in the central and peripheral nervous systems, as well as in epithelial cells involved in Ca²⁺ transport (e.g., distal tubular cells, cortical collecting tubules of the kidney, and enteric neuroendocrine cells).
