This antibody detects endogenous levels of total MAOB.

Target Information

MAOB (Monoamine Oxidase B), also known as MAO, BRAIN, or AMINE OXIDASE (FLAVIN-CONTAINING) B, is encoded by the MAOB gene in humans. It belongs to the flavin monoamine oxidase family and is located on chromosome Xp11.3.
MAOB catalyzes the oxidative deamination of biogenic and xenobiotic amines, playing a critical role in the metabolism of neuroactive and vasoactive amines in both the central nervous system and peripheral tissues.
It preferentially degrades benzylamine and phenylethylamine and also degrades dopamine. MAO-B inhibition increases dopamine activity and reduces hydrogen peroxide production, thereby lowering reactive oxygen species levels.
