Target Information
Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are a subfamily within the TGF-beta superfamily of signaling proteins. They are widely distributed and play roles in various physiological processes both pre- and postnatally.
BMP-10 is crucial in embryonic heart development by stimulating and maintaining cardiomyocyte proliferation. It signals through receptor complexes such as BMPR-1A, BMPR-1B, ALK1, ALK3, or ALK6, leading to phosphorylation of SMAD transcription factors (SMAD1, SMAD5, SMAD8) or SMAD-independent pathways.
BMP-10 is structurally related to BMP-9, and both can inhibit endothelial cell proliferation and migration.
