Target Information

MHC class II molecules are heterodimers composed of non-covalently associated alpha (31–34 kDa) and beta (26–29 kDa) chains. Antigen presentation via MHC class II requires lysosomal protease activity in two processes:

1. Endocytosed antigens are degraded into antigenic peptides.
2. Class II molecules synthesized with an invariant chain (Ii) blocking their peptide-binding site gain binding capacity after Ii degradation.

MHC class II molecules present exogenous antigens to CD4+ T lymphocytes (T helper cells), with CD4 interacting with non-polymorphic residues of MHC class II.

HLA and MHC antibodies are essential tools in Immunopeptidomics, aiding in the identification and characterization of neoantigens through LC-MS/MS analysis.
