Target Information
LYRM1 was identified through suppression subtractive hybridization comparing expression in omental adipose tissue of obese versus non-obese individuals. Both mRNA and protein levels of LYRM1 are elevated in obese individuals. LYRM1 is widely expressed, with highest levels in adipose and liver tissues. It promotes preadipocyte proliferation and inhibits apoptosis of preadipocytes. Ectopic LYRM1 expression does not significantly affect adipogenesis, suggesting LYRM1 influences adipose tissue homeostasis by modulating the preadipocyte pool size.
