Mouse anti-human CD8 antibody, clone LT8, recognizes the human CD8 cell surface glycoprotein expressed by a subset of peripheral blood T cells with cytotoxic/suppressor activity.

Target Information

Cluster of differentiation 8 (CD8) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin receptor family. It plays an essential role in T cell signal transduction, differentiation, and activation.
CD8 is mainly expressed on T cells as a disulfide-linked heterodimer (CD8α/β) functioning as a co-receptor with T cell receptor (TCR) for MHC class I molecules. CD8α homodimers are also found on subsets of T cells, NK cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells.
Upon MHC-I/peptide complex ligation, CD8 recruits Lck kinase, leading to lymphokine production, motility, and cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) activation. Activated CTLs are key in pathogen and tumor cell clearance. Differentiation of naive CD8⁺ T cells into CTLs is enhanced by IL-2, IL-12, and TGF-β1.
