Target Information
GDP dissociation inhibitors (GDIs) regulate the GDP-GTP exchange reaction of rab family small GTP-binding proteins, part of the ras superfamily, which are involved in vesicular trafficking between cellular organelles. GDIs slow the dissociation of GDP from rab proteins and release GDP from membrane-bound rabs.
GDI1 is primarily expressed in neural and sensory tissues, and mutations in GDI1 have been linked to X-linked nonspecific mental retardation.
