Cystathionine beta-synthase (CBS)는 heme을 포함하는 유일한 pyridoxal phosphate-dependent 효소로, 특히 뇌에서 hydrogen sulfide의 중요한 조절자로 작용합니다. CBS는 cysteine을 이용하여 hydrogen sulfide를 생성하며, hydrogen sulfide는 신경 보호 및 세포 보호 기능을 가진 신경전달 물질로 알려져 있습니다.
