MMP3 (stromelysin-1)은 peptidase M10A 서브패밀리에 속하며, 전구 단백질 형태로 분비되어 세포 외 단백질분해효소에 의해 활성화됩니다.
이 효소는 아연과 칼슘 이온에 결합할 수 있으며, metallo-endopeptidase 활성을 가집니다. 활성화된 MMP3는 collagen, gelatin, fibronectin, laminin을 분해하며, 상처 치유 및 조직 재형성과 같은 정상 세포 과정에 관여합니다.
유전자 변이는 관상동맥 심장질환 6과 관련될 수 있습니다.
