Target Information
The WNT gene family consists of structurally related genes encoding secreted signaling proteins involved in oncogenesis and developmental processes such as cell fate regulation and embryonic patterning.
WNT4 is a key signaling molecule influencing the sex-determination cascade and shows 98% amino acid identity to mouse and rat Wnt4 proteins.
It plays a role in female development and prevention of testes formation, and may be associated with abnormal breast tissue proliferation.
Mutations in WNT4 can cause Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser syndrome and SERKAL syndrome.
