Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is localized in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus, and is also secreted. Reducing expression increases susceptibility to ER stress-induced death and promotes cell proliferation. Initially thought to contain an arginine-rich region, later evidence indicates a smaller open reading frame without the arginine tract. Polymorphisms in this region, including a mutation changing codon 50 from ATG to AGG, have been reported in various tumors but are also found in normal tissues, indicating they are not tumor-related.
