Target Information
Lysosomal enzymes containing one or two mannose 6-phosphate (man6P) moieties are transported within the cell by approximately 300 kDa cation-independent mannose 6-phosphate receptors (CI-MPR).
These receptors participate in both biosynthetic and endocytic cycles, moving newly synthesized and extracellular lysosomal enzymes between the trans-Golgi network, endosomes, and lysosomes.
MPRs also possess a binding site for IGF-II, allowing simultaneous binding of man6P and IGF-II.
A soluble truncated form (~240 kDa) of the extracellular domain circulates in serum and binds both ligands.
