Product Specific Information
The RM4-5 monoclonal antibody reacts with the mouse CD4 molecule, a 55 kDa cell surface receptor expressed by most thymocytes, subsets of mature T cells, and dendritic cells. CD4 binds to MHC class II on antigen-presenting cells and is critical for T cell development and function. In T cells, CD4 associates with p56lck via its cytoplasmic tail. RM4-5 binding is blocked by GK1.5.
Applications Reported: Flow cytometric analysis, immunohistochemical staining, isolation and depletion of CD4+ cells, blocking of ligand binding.
(Functional Grade purified RM4-5, Product #16-0042 recommended for functional assays.)Applications Tested: Flow cytometric analysis of mouse thymocytes and splenocytes at ≤0.5 µg/test (100 µL final volume). Optimal titration recommended.

Target Information
CD4 antigen recognizes MHC class II molecules and serves as a co-receptor for HIV. It is primarily expressed on T helper cells, but also on monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. Tissue expression includes thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain brain and gut regions. CD4 aids in early T-cell activation via association with Lck and may contribute to neuronal damage in immune-mediated CNS diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
