Target Information
The MYO5A gene encodes one of three myosin V heavy-chain proteins, members of the myosin superfamily. Myosin V is an actin-based motor protein involved in cytoplasmic vesicle transport, spindle-pole alignment, and mRNA translocation. It is abundant in melanocytes and nerve cells. Mutations in this gene are associated with Griscelli syndrome type-1 (GS1), Griscelli syndrome type-3 (GS3), and Elejalde disease. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been reported, though some remain incompletely characterized.
