Target Information
Structural maintenance of chromosomes (SMC) and non-SMC condensin proteins associate into complexes implicated in chromosome condensation. Accurate segregation of replicated sister chromatids requires condensation into a manageable form prior to metaphase.
The condensin I complex includes SMC2, SMC4, CAP-H, CAP-G, and CAP-D2.
Condensin II complex contains CAP-G2, CAP-H2, and CAP-D3.
CAP-H2 (also known as NCAPH2 or kleisin beta isoform 2) forms part of the regulatory subcomplex that activates SMC ATPases and promotes mitosis-specific chromatin binding.
Individual non-SMC protein functions in activation remain to be determined.
