The beta cluster includes 16 genes and 3 pseudogenes, each encoding 6 extracellular cadherin domains and a cytoplasmic tail distinct from other cadherins.
These neural cadherin-like adhesion proteins are integral plasma membrane proteins likely involved in establishing specific neural cell-cell connections.
