Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the transferrin receptor-like family, producing a single-pass type II membrane protein with protease-associated (PA), M28 peptidase, and transferrin receptor-like dimerization domains. It mediates cellular uptake of transferrin-bound iron. Mutations are linked to hereditary hemochromatosis type III. Several alternatively spliced variants exist, though not all are fully characterized.
