Target Information
P-cadherin (Cadherin-3) is a Type 1 cadherin protein belonging to the cadherin superfamily. It is a single-pass transmembrane protein with five extracellular cadherin repeats and an intracellular domain that binds p120-catenin and β-catenin. Cadherins are calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion glycoproteins involved in development, wound healing, cell signaling, growth, and differentiation.
P-cadherin is expressed in human fetal structures and adult tissues such as the basal layer of the epidermis, breast, prostate, ovary, cervix, hair follicle, and corneal endothelium. It is also found on embryonic stem cells and stem cells of the mammary gland and hair follicle. Overexpression of P-cadherin is associated with poor prognosis in several carcinomas, including breast, prostate, ovary, colon, and stomach. Mutations in CDH3 are linked to congenital hypotrichosis with juvenile macular dystrophy.
