Target Information
UBA2 is involved in covalent attachment of one protein to another, one of the most prominent posttranslational modifications. Ubiquitin is the most familiar of these modifiers, and its activation and transfer to target proteins has been extensively studied. Recently, ubiquitin-like proteins such as SUMO (Sentrin) have gained attention. SUMO is implicated in stabilization and sub-cellular localization of target proteins. Conjugation of SUMO-1, SUMO-2, and SUMO-3 onto target proteins requires the coordinated action of E1-activating enzyme SAE1/SAE2, E2-conjugating enzyme Ubc9, and an E3-like SUMO ligase.
