The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.

Target Information

GAD-65 and GAD-67 (glutamate decarboxylases) catalyze the production of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid). In the central nervous system, GABA functions as the main inhibitory neurotransmitter by increasing chloride conductance, which inhibits neuronal firing.

GABA activates ionotropic (GABAA) and metabotropic (GABAB) receptors, as well as a third class called GABAC.

• GABAA and GABAC: Ligand-gated ion channels, structurally and functionally distinct.
• GABAA receptor family: Includes Rα1–6, Rβ1–3, Rγ1–3, Rδ, Rε, Rρ1, and Rρ2.
• GABAB family: Composed of GABAB R1α and GABAB R1β.
• GABA transporters: GABA T-1, T-2, and T-3 (also known as GAT-1, GAT-2, and GAT-3), which function to terminate GABA action.
