Target Information
The GLS2 gene encodes a mitochondrial phosphate-activated glutaminase that catalyzes the hydrolysis of glutamine to produce glutamate and ammonia. This protein is functionally similar to kidney glutaminase but slightly smaller in size. Although initially considered liver-specific, GLS2 expression has been observed in various tissues. At least one transcribed pseudogene has been identified for this gene.
