Target Information
Podocalyxin-like protein 2 (PODXL2) is a CD34 family member expressed by podocytes, vascular endothelium, mesothelium, and certain hematopoietic progenitors. It serves as a major sialoprotein in the glycocalyx of glomerular podocytes. Although its role in leukemic blasts remains unclear, PODXL2 is considered a candidate gene associated with prostate cancer aggressiveness. It complements CD34 as a useful surface marker for hemangioblasts, precursors of hematopoietic and endothelial cells.
