ATG14 (Autophagy related protein homolog 14)는 인간의 14번 염색체에 위치한 ATG14 유전자에 의해 암호화되며, ATG14L 또는 BARKOR(Beclin 1-associated autophagy-related key regulator)로도 알려져 있습니다.
자가포식(Autophagy)은 세포 내 단백질 및 손상된 소기관을 재활용하는 진화적으로 보존된 과정으로, 영양 스트레스에 대한 세포 반응으로 유도됩니다.
이 과정에는 오토파고좀 형성, 리소좀과의 융합 및 오토파골리소좀 형성이 포함됩니다.
Class III PI3-Kinase인 Vps34와 그 상호작용 단백질 Beclin 1은 ATG14(type 1) 또는 UVRAG(type 2)를 포함하는 복합체를 형성합니다.
Atg14는 type 1 복합체를 preautophagosomal structure(PAS)로 유도하며, 오토파고좀 형성 개시에 중요한 역할을 합니다.
