Target Information
Synapsin III is part of the synapsin gene family, encoding neuronal phosphoproteins associated with synaptic vesicles. These proteins are involved in synaptogenesis and neurotransmitter release, suggesting roles in neuropsychiatric diseases.
The protein includes conserved domains A, C, and E, and a unique domain J between C and E.
Localization to 22q12.3 suggests possible association with schizophrenia susceptibility.
The TIMP3 gene is located within an intron of Synapsin III and is transcribed in the opposite direction.
