Target Information
CD1a is a non-polymorphic MHC Class I-related cell surface glycoprotein expressed in association with beta-2 microglobulin. It is found on cortical thymocytes, Langerhans cells, interdigitating cells, and certain T-cell malignancies. CD1a mediates the presentation of lipid and glycolipid antigens to T cells. The human genome contains five CD1 family genes (CD1a, b, c, d, e) located on chromosome 1. CD1a localizes to the plasma membrane and early endocytic vesicles. Alternative splicing variants have been observed, though their biological significance remains uncertain.
