Target Information

Enhancer-binding elongation factor that specifically binds enhancers in embryonic stem cells (ES cells), marks them, and is required for their future activation during stem cell specification. It binds to enhancer regions of both active and poised genes and is necessary for establishing proper RNA polymerase II occupancy at developmentally regulated genes in a cohesin-dependent manner.
It plays a role in priming developmentally regulated genes for later recruitment of the super elongation complex (SEC) for transcriptional activation during differentiation and is required for recruitment of P-TEFb within SEC. ELL3 may also be preloaded on germ cell chromatin, suggesting a role in early enhancer marking.
Functions in promoting epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and acts as an elongation factor component of both the super elongation complex (SEC) and the little elongation complex (LEC), which regulate RNA polymerase II and III transcription, respectively.
