Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a mitochondrial protein containing two domains: an N-terminal mitochondrial localization sequence and a UPF0099 domain. It exhibits peptidyl-tRNA hydrolase activity, releasing the peptidyl moiety from tRNA to prevent accumulation of dissociated peptidyl-tRNA, which could otherwise reduce translation efficiency. This protein also regulates cell survival and death, promoting survival through integrin-signaling pathways in matrix-attached cells. Mutations in this gene are associated with intellectual disability, postnatal microcephaly, progressive cerebellar atrophy, hearing impairment, polyneuropathy, failure to thrive, and organ fibrosis with exocrine pancreas insufficiency. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
