Target Information
Chromosome 20 represents about 2% of human DNA, consisting of approximately 63 million bases and 600 genes. It includes regions with numerous genes expressed in the epididymis, potentially important for seminal production and male contraception. The PRNP gene encoding the prion protein associated with spongiform encephalopathies, such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, is also located on chromosome 20. Disorders like amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, spinal muscular atrophy, ring chromosome 20 epilepsy syndrome, and Alagille syndrome are associated with this chromosome.
