Target Information
Chromosome 20 represents about 2% of human DNA and contains approximately 63 million bases and 600 genes. This chromosome includes regions with genes expressed in the epididymis, which are important for seminal production and may serve as targets for male contraception. The PRNP gene, associated with spongiform encephalopathies such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, is also located on chromosome 20. Additionally, chromosome 20 is linked to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, spinal muscular atrophy, ring chromosome 20 epilepsy syndrome, and Alagille syndrome. The C20orf187 gene product has been provisionally designated C20orf187 pending further characterization.
