Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the basic helix-loop-helix family of transcription factors. HAND2 is one of two closely related family members asymmetrically expressed in developing ventricular chambers and plays a crucial role in cardiac morphogenesis. It functions in the formation of the right ventricle and aortic arch arteries, implicating it as a mediator of congenital heart disease. HAND2 also plays an important role in limb and branchial arch development.
