Target Information
ATG3 (APG3) is a conjugating enzyme essential for APG8 lipidation, a key step in autophagy initiation. Autophagy is a cellular degradation process important for growth control and nutrient preservation. It may be defective in tumor cells and is negatively regulated by TOR through phosphorylation of autophagy protein APG1. ATG3 acts as an E2-like enzyme that catalyzes the formation of the Atg8-phosphatidylethanolamine (Atg8-PE) conjugate, critical for autophagosome formation.
