Target Information
TCF12, also known as HTF4, is a member of the basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) E-protein family that recognizes the consensus binding site (E-box) CANNTG.
It is expressed in various tissues such as skeletal muscle, thymus, B- and T-cells, and may regulate lineage-specific gene expression through heterodimer formation with other bHLH E-proteins.
TCF12, together with E2A, plays a crucial role in blocking thymocyte proliferation before pre-TCR expression and is essential for proper T cell differentiation.
Recent studies indicate that TCF12 is also vital for the development of invariant natural killer T cells.
