Target Information
DEAD box proteins are characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD) and are putative RNA helicases. They participate in cellular processes involving RNA secondary structure alterations such as translation initiation, nuclear and mitochondrial splicing, and ribosome and spliceosome assembly. Some members are involved in embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cellular growth and division.
This gene encodes a DEAD box protein functioning as an ATPase activated by various RNA species but not by dsDNA. It shares high similarity with DDX5 and can produce multiple isoforms through alternative splicing and translation initiation, including a non-AUG (CUG) start codon.
