Target Information
Olfactory Marker Protein (OMP) is an abundant 19-kDa cytosolic protein almost exclusively expressed in mature, functioning olfactory neurons, not in neural precursor basal cells. The OMP gene and protein sequence are highly conserved among mouse, rat, and human.
OMP plays a modulatory role in the odor detection and signal transduction cascade and interacts with BEX1 and BEX2. It is uniquely associated with mature olfactory receptor neurons and belongs to the olfactory marker protein family.
