Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the F-box protein family characterized by an approximately 40 amino acid motif, the F-box. These proteins form subunits of the ubiquitin ligase complex (SCFs), functioning in phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination.
F-box proteins are classified into three types:
- Fbws: containing WD-40 domains
- Fbls: containing leucine-rich repeats
- Fbxs: containing diverse interaction modules or no recognizable motifs
FBXO32 belongs to the Fbxs class and includes an F-box domain. It is highly expressed during muscle atrophy, and deficiency in mice confers resistance to atrophy. Thus, FBXO32 is a potential therapeutic target for muscle atrophy. Alternative splicing yields two transcript variants encoding isoforms of different sizes.
