2009년 초 멕시코와 미국 환자 시료에서 새로운 돼지 유래 Influenza A (H1N1) 바이러스가 확인되었으며, 이는 빠르게 전 세계로 확산되어 WHO가 2009년 6월 11일 팬데믹을 선언했습니다.
Influenza A 바이러스는 16가지 Hemagglutinin (HA)과 9가지 Neuraminidase (NA) 표면 단백질 중 하나를 가질 수 있습니다.
Hemagglutinin은 바이러스 부착을, Neuraminidase는 바이러스 방출을 돕습니다. 두 단백질 모두 감염 예방 또는 바이러스 복제 억제에 중요한 면역 반응을 유도합니다.
이 신종 H1N1 바이러스는 인간, 돼지, 조류 인플루엔자 유전자가 결합된 독특한 유전 조합을 가지며, 기존 계절성 H1N1 바이러스와 항원성이 달라 기존 면역으로는 제한적인 보호 효과만 있습니다.
