Target Information
Carbonic anhydrase III (CAIII) is a member of a multigene family encoding carbonic anhydrase isozymes. These metalloenzymes catalyze the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide and are expressed in various cell types.
CA3 expression is tissue-specific, highly expressed in skeletal muscle, and at lower levels in cardiac and smooth muscle. Elevated CA3 levels have been observed in some carriers of Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
The CA3 gene spans approximately 10.3 kb and contains seven exons and six introns.
