Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family. PTPs are signaling molecules that regulate various cellular processes including cell growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation. This PTP has extracellular, transmembrane, and intracellular catalytic domains, representing a receptor-type PTP. In mouse brain, the similar gene associates with MAP kinases, regulating their activity and localization. The rat counterpart is regulated by nerve growth factor, suggesting a role in neuronal growth and differentiation.
