Target Information
Galectins are a family of beta-galactoside-binding proteins involved in cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions. LGALS3BP levels are elevated in serum of cancer patients and individuals infected with HIV. It is implicated in immune responses associated with NK and LAK cell cytotoxicity. The full-length 90K cDNA is localized to chromosome 17q25. The native protein binds specifically to a macrophage-associated lectin (Mac-2) and galectin-1.
