Target Information
3-Hydroxy-3-Methylglutaryl-CoA Reductase (HMGCR) is a key enzyme in the mevalonate pathway, essential for the biosynthesis of cholesterol and other isoprenoids. It catalyzes the conversion of HMG-CoA to mevalonate, a rate-limiting step in cholesterol production. Because of its central role, HMGCR is the primary target of statin drugs used to lower cholesterol and reduce cardiovascular risk.
